Children's Photography Tips

When photographing children it is important to get on their level.

I mean this in several ways. First, think like a kid. What are they into? It is always great to photography children in their natural environment. Kids like their "stuff". so why not use that to convey their personality. Going to a sterile white, bright lights, lots of people box studio can be very frightening to kids. That is why I am behind the camera. It's scary out there :)

We specialize in location shoots. Familiar surroundings that are non threatening to kids, and 9 out of 10 times yield great results on the first try.

Also get down to their height level. That way all of your shots from standing up are not looking down on them. Lie down on the rug, rest the camera on the arm rest of a couch. Also make it a game.

One thing to keep in mind, if the child is just not into it at that moment, don't force the issue. No one wants red puffy faces, red eyes, tears and runny noses in their pictures. Plus, you don't want them running and hiding the next time they see you reach for the camera.

Get creative, go outside, do helping mommy in the kitchen, dress up is always a hit with kids. Just have fun with it.

When it is time for the must have Holiday, graduation, prom, engagement, team sports shots, do yourself a favor though.... Hire a pro. It is not worth missing these once in a life time shots because of a few $$'s. What you will save in stress and aggravation, will pay for itself.

Have fun. When it is time to call us..... You'll know.
