Summer Picture Fun

The Summer is a great time to practice your photography skills. There is always so much going on. So much subject matter to shoot.

Here are a couple of tips:

Since the sun is at it's strongest, try to shoot earlier in the day, before 10AM and later in the day, after 5PM. The light is softer and more diffused. Harsh light causes shadows and unflattering people shots. Try to avoid shooting between 11-3PM. If that can't be avoided try a few simple tricks.

Increase shutter speed for a darker background. Use your flash to add fill light to your subject. Yes I said your flash. It will help balance out the shadows created by harsh light. Also a lens hood is a good idea. No lens hood, not to worry. You can use that paperback book on your beach chair to help keep unwanted light from entering the lens. Also try having the sun at different angles. Contrary to popular belief, your back does not always have to be to the sun.

Try these simple techniques. Next time silhouettes and sunsets.
